Dr Anthony Fauci endorses Covaxin; says it neutralises India's Covid variant

Renowned scientist and White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr Anthony Fauci has endorsed the use of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin as veing effective against the B.1.617 variant of Coronavirus prevalent in India.

Addressing a media briefing, Dr Fauci said that analysis of the convalescent data of Covid-19 cases in India and recipients of the BBV152 (Covaxin) found that the vaccine neutralised the B.1.617 strain.

Vaccination could be a very important antidote against the virus, Dr Fauci declared.

At the same briefing, White House Covid-19 Response Senior Advisor Dr Andy Slavitt said that the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention was sending a strike team to India to help coordinate the Covid response.

He further noted that the United States was working on deploying resources and supplies, including therapeutics, rapid testing kits, ventilators, PPE, and raw materials needed to manufacture vaccines in India.
