COVID-19: Karnataka doctor makes protective suits with help of tailors to aid hospitals

As there is a shortage of hazmat suits for frontline staff treating coronavirus positive patients, Karnataka Medical Council member Dr Pavan Patil with six tailors has been busy making protective suits

Taking into account the growing concern on the supply of hazmat suits or PPE kits, a doctor from Gadag has begun making protective equipment. He has roped in six tailors who stitch about 300 suits every day.

Dr Pavan Patil from Karnataka Medical Council says in the market this suit which costs over 2,500 is only for single use, following which it has to be incinerated.

Due to the high cost and its availability, the doctor purchased material from Hubbali and has come up with similar design. He is waiting for ISO certification from Tamil Nadu.

The suit has a neck loop, chain, elastic and zip.
After making two suits initially, there were some alterations that needed to be made, and it is now ready to be used.
