PM Modi chairs over 2-hour meeting on Ukraine, reviews situation

According to government sources, the Prime Minister stressed upon the need to ensure the safety and evacuation of Indian students as the top priority. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired a high-level meeting on the Russia-Ukraine crisis that lasted more than two hours.

Sources said that India will further enhance cooperation with neighbouring countries of Ukraine to expedite evacuation.

India has so far evacuated around 1000 Indian nationals from Ukraine and about the same number of students have crossed to neighbouring countries of Romania and Hungary. 

The government has anticipated that there would be 15,000 Indians stranded in the war-strife country. 

So far four flights of Air India have landed in Delhi, Mumbai and Karnataka since the evacuation drive named 'Operation Ganga' commenced on February 26. 

While briefing the media persons in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that two more flights would land in India on Monday. 

As per the sources in the government establishment, flights would also be operated by IndiGo and SpiceJet for rescuing stranded Indian students in Ukraine.

From time to time, the Indian Missions in the neighbouring countries of Ukraine have been issuing guidelines for their citizens. 

Shringla also listed out the flights planned for evacuation drives via neighbouring countries and said that a total of nine flights have been planned by the government from Bucharest and Budapest. 

The foreign secretary also met the envoys of Ukraine and Russia for safe passage of Indian students to neighbouring countries like Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.
