Going gaga over groundnuts during Kadlekai Parishe in Bengaluru

The two-day annual groundnut fair at Basavangudi in Bengaluru is back with much fanfare as thousands gathered at Bull Temple Road to witness the beginning of the annual fair, also called Kadlekai Parishe, that may extend up to a week. The farmers and traders from Bengaluru outskirts, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh bring various types of groundnuts and sell it.

Bengaluru South, which is known to keep up with the tradition, is all set to witness two-day annual groundnut fair - Kadlekai Parishe. The parishe that was inaugurated by Bengaluru mayor Gautham Kumar Jain and Bengaluru South MP Tajesvi Surya will have over 200 stalls and over 100 types of groundnuts.

According to the MP, the tradition of groundnut fair is being held from over 400 years and to ensure the safety of visitors, the security measures have been undertaken by Bengaluru City Police. Apart from groundnuts, terracotta artefacts, traditional bangles and others are also sold to make it look like a complete village mela.
