A new vaccine is now available for the world, not for Coronavirus but for Malaria.

RTS, S/AS01, the first-ever anti-Malaria vaccine, was on Wednesday endorsed by the World Health Organisation.

Statistics reveal why the vaccine was more than just the need of the hour. Over 260,000 African children aged below five succumb from malaria annually.

The vaccine shot has been proven to cause a significant reduction in cases of severe malaria. As for the safety of the vaccine, the WHO notes that to date, over 2.3 million doses have been administered in three African countries.

Besides sub-Saharan Africa, the world health body recommends the use of the RTS, S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children in regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission.
