Billionaire Elon Musk is willing to sell Tesla stock worth $6 billion to help solve world hunger problem, but has one condition. In a tweet on Sunday (October 31), the Tesla and SpaceX CEO launched an 'open' challenge to United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director, David Beasley, asking him to prove the latter's claim that just 2 per cent of the entrepreneur's income could help end world hunger problem.
Elon Musk's tweet read that if the WFP can describe how $6 billion would solve world hunger, "I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it." Musk, however, added that the WFP must make a public disclosure of how they are utilizing the funds in a bid to tackle this global crisis. He said, “But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent.”
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO's 'open' challenge came after David Beasley urged billionaire to chip in to end world hunger issues. In an interview to CNN, David Beasley highlighted that governments are tapped out, which is there is a need for billionaires should step up now. Beasley had said, “$6 billion to help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don't reach them. It's not complicated.”
Earlier this month, the WFP Executive Director specifically called on Elon Musk and Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos to aid in the world hunger issue. Elon Musk's net worth stands at $311 billion, while Jeff Bezos' is at $199 billion.
