Viral video: A heroic effort to rescue 100 whales

A video of villagers and officials joining hands in Sri Lanka's Kalutara district to save a pod of about 100 pilot whales that were beached at Panadura coast has gone viral.

Navy personnel, police teams and local volunteers rushed to rescue the whales.

The rescuers worked overnight and into the morning to make sure they whales made it safely back into the water

Unfortunately, four whales died during the rescue.
