Fifth generation fighter aircraft rollout by 2024?
AMCA is a 5th generation fighter aircraft incorporated with features like stealth airframe, internal carriage of smart weapons and advanced sensors with data fusion among others. Asianet Newsable's Anish Singh spoke to DRDO AMCA Project Director AK Ghosh.
To evolve with the transforming character of future warfare, India is currently working on the next variant of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft that would be pilotless and be effective in conducting operations without human loss.
Talking to Asianet Newsable, DRDO AMCA Project Director AK Ghosh said, "We have plans in future to incorporate 6th generation technologies, where it will be possible to fly AMCA aircraft in an autonomous mode for dangerous missions."
DRDO's Aeronautical Development Agency-developed AMCA is expected to roll out in 2024 while the first flight would be undertaken in 2025.

It would have capabilities of swing-role, close combat and precision strike. The aircraft would be fitted with future missiles, standoff weapons and precision weapons.
The twin-engine medium multi-role aircraft will weigh around 25 tonnes and will see a quantum leap in term of technologies.
Dr Ghosh said that production of the aircraft will start after 2030.
So far, the US, Russia and China have developed 5th generation aircraft. The AMCA is being designed and developed as per the requirements of Indian Air Force.
"The PDR (Preliminary Design Review) has been completed and it is in the midst of detailed design. After sometime we are going to develop the aircraft, where we will start making the prototype," the AMCA Project Director said.
