BJP's poster boy from the region, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emerged as the party's deal maker, flying almost on a daily basis to all the three states of the northeast where polls where held in February this year in between running his own state.

Since Nagaland got its statehood in 1963, it was yet to get a woman MLA in the 60-member assembly. Not that women have not contested for election but they have never been voted to power.

It can be seen that the NDPP, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has been in an alliance with the BJP since the last elections in 2018. The alliance had won 30 seats in the previous elections while NPF won 26.

Nagaland Assembly Election 2023: The counting for Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023 is underway. Voting took place at 59 out of 60 Assembly seats in the state on February 27 with an overall voter turnout of 83.63 percent.
 

Naga People's Front, another major party based in Nagaland, is unlikely to make a big impact in the elections. The party contested on 22 seats while Congress contested the elections on 23.

The voting for Nagaland Assembly elections was held today. Over 13 lakh voters will choose from 183 candidates contesting in 59 out of a total of 60 seats. Polling began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm. The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is contesting in alliance with the BJP. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday gifted Meghalaya stoles and Nagaland shawls to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is visiting India.

The Congress President further alleged that the BJP has "not mentioned" about the political solution of the state in its manifesto and suggested the citizens to 'seek a different course'. "Congress party is with you. Take up this issue. We will also support you," he said.

Nagaland Election 2023: BJP senior leader Amit Shah said that some issues concerning the development and rights of eastern Nagaland would be addressed after the assembly elections. "I promise you all that after the elections; the agreement will be implemented through which all issues of eastern Nagaland will be addressed. The region will undergo massive development, and you will be granted your rights," said Shah. 
 

Nagaland Election 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the NDPP-BJP coalition would retain power in Nagaland and solve all of the state's problems. Shah slammed the Congress party and its leaders for their choice of words for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the opposition party's members' standards had fallen since Rahul Gandhi became its leader.

In a bid to avoid ill effects of liquor and liquor offered as inducement during the Assembly polls, the womenfolk of the Chakhesang Naga tribe under the Chakhesang Mothers' Association (CMA) have put up around 100 check-points in their area.

Among the other candidates in the party's first list are S Amento Chisti from Dimapur II (ST), V Lasuh from Dimapur III (ST), Akavi Zhimomi from Ghaspani-I and Rosy Thomas from Tenning (ST). Assembly elections in Nagaland will be held on February 27 and the results declared on March 2. The last date for filing of nominations is February 7.

Tripura and Nagaland will go to polls along with Meghalaya. It can be seen that Tripura will vote on February 16 and the election in Nagaland and Meghalaya will be held on February 27, 2023.
