Kerala will receive heavy rainfall today and a yellow alert has been sounded in five districts by the IMD. Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur districts have been placed under yellow alert for June 13.

The India Meteorological Department on Thursday (June 8) declared the onset of southwest monsoon in Kerala. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall in Kerala in the next five days. The weather department has also alarmed a yellow alert in eight districts.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday stated that 52 deaths and property damage have been reported to the state's pre-monsoon rains so far. He also urged officials to take prompt action.

The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers for the next four days. Here's how netizens are reacting to monsoon rains in the city.

"Most sections of the nation will experience good and evenly distributed rainfall activity," Mohapatra said as he released the Updated Long Range Rainfall Forecast for the current monsoon season. He predicted that central and peninsular India will receive 106 per cent of long-term average rainfall, while the north-eastern area would receive less.

The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with over 8 lakh people affected in over 2,585 villages in 29 districts. Pre-monsoon rainfall created floods and landslides, killing fourteen people.
 

Rainfall drenched the city on Monday, causing traffic jams and flooding in some areas. Whitefield, Sarjapur, Kodigehalli, Hebbal, and Yelhanka were among the areas devastated by Monday's rains. The IMD has issued a 'orange' signal for Tuesday and Wednesday in Bengaluru, owing to the ongoing chances of pre-monsoon rains.

A western disturbance can affect the Western Himalayan part nearly April 12 and trigger pre-monsoon rain from April 13 to 15 in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. 

An orange alert has been issued after the monsoon rainfall in Delhi breached the 1,000 mm mark.

In a positive news, the Indian Meteorological Department has hinted at good rainfall this season despite the delay in onset of southwest monsoon. The country in general expected to receive 101% rainfall, while Southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka that fall under the southern peninsula region are likely to receive 92 to 108% this season.
 

The advancement of southwest monsoon over Maldives and Comorin area, eastcentral, most part of southeast and westcentral area of Bay of Bengal on May 27 is favorable conditions for Southwest monsoon which is likely to arrive in Kerala on May 31, predicts Indian Meteorological Department.
