Onset of Southwest monsoon likely on May 31 in Kerala, to cover Karnataka and other parts by June 5

The advancement of southwest monsoon over Maldives and Comorin area, eastcentral, most part of southeast and westcentral area of Bay of Bengal on May 27 is favorable conditions for Southwest monsoon which is likely to arrive in Kerala on May 31, predicts Indian Meteorological Department.

The two cyclones Tauktae and Yaas and that lashed at parts of Western Ghats, parts of North India and now Orissa and West Bengal received good amount of rains and now with the advancement of southwest monsoon in parts of southwest and eastcentral Bay of Bengal and conditions have become favorable for onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around May 31.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Maldives and Comorin region have already witnessed the advancement of southwest monsoon.

And further advancement over southwest, eastcentral and parts of westcentral Bay of Bengal on May 27 morning, has led to favorable conditions for the arrival of Southwest monsoon over Kerala on May 31.

In five days after arriving in Kerala, rains will then cover Karnataka and other parts.

"Conditions are likely to become favourable for onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala around May 31," a report said quoting IMD

IMD has already predicted a normal rainfall this year and the arrival of the Southwest monsoon will begin the commencement of four-month rainfall from June to September.
