The latest update from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) hints that despite the delay in southwest monsoon which was expected to arrive in Indian mainland, Kerala on May 31 and to cover the rest of the country, there will be normal rainfall in the country. The onset of the monsoon is expected on June 3.

The only concern will be the northern region where the IMD predicts below normal rainfall of about less than 95% this season.

As per reports, the country is expected to receive 101% of the Long Period Average (LPA) of 88 centimetres rainfall with an error margin of either plus or minus 4% during the season which ends in September.

"India will receive normal, well-distributed rainfall during the current south-west monsoon season, benefiting farmers and the country as a whole, India, " IMD was quoted as saying.

Earlier in the month of April, IMD came up with a forecast of 98% it predicted in April but with advancement of monsoon activities in Maldives comorin region few days back and now El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which is seen to adversely impact quantum of monsoon rainfall received, the conditions will be favourable for good amount of rainfall.

These regions to get good rains:

Rainfall over central India is expected to be 106% which is normal. Similarly, the northwest and southern peninsular region would receive 92-108% and 93-107% rainfall.

On the other hand, the rainfall over the northeast region is expected to be below normal at less than 95%.

The weathermen have hinted that eastern parts of central India along with the plains of Himalayas and East India, will receive above-normal rainfall, while the Northwest parts of India may witness below-normal rains over many areas.
