CUET 2023: The Indian government has exempted Meghalaya and other Northeastern states from admission to central colleges in specific areas via the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). 

The high court castigated the state government's proposal for deployment of 160 companies of central armed police forces to check illegal mining and transportation of coal and termed it "grandiose" as the deployment plan would cost the state over Rs 300 crore.

Rio will lead an all-party opposition-less government, even as the NDPP-BJP alliance secured 37 seats in the 60-member House in the recent assembly polls in the northeastern state. All other parties in the state have extended their letters of support to the Rio-led alliance.

The chief of the National People's Party (NPP) submitted his resignation letter to Governor Phagu Chauhan on Friday and has staked claim to form the new government in the state. Conrad Sangma's party NPP emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election.
