A 49-year-old Indian-origin man has been sentenced to over three years in prison for smuggling more than 800 Indian citizens into the US using the Uber ride-hailing app.

Amazon and Uber have announced the second phase of their partnership to offer additional benefits to Amazon Prime members. Amazon Prime members can avail 5 per cent cashback on every Uber ride. The cashback can be used to book future rides or while shopping from the Amazon.in

"The video shows the boy forcibly pushing the girl inside the car. It is after the girl wanted to move out after an altercation. Further investigation is in progress," a Delhi Police officer said.  

Even as the Delhi Commission for Women took note of the incident and issued a notice to the Delhi Police and Uber, while one section of users on social media has been seeking more accountability from can aggregators, others resorted to victim shaming.

The notice by the Delhi transport department clearly states that the ban on bike taxis will come into effect immediately. The government notice points out that if service providers like Ola, Uber, and Rapido riders continue to provide bike taxi service in Delhi, then a fine will be charged.

While speaking at an event ahead of the World Economic Forum 2023 in Davos, Uber's CEO said that no layoffs are currently planned. The CEO added that Uber has been working for months to reduce its costs and will do it earlier than its competitors.

The minimum charge fixed by the government for autorickshaw rides is Rs 30 and the per kilometre fare above that is Rs 15. Thimmappa, an autorickshaw driver, said the fixed fares on the face of it do not appear to be exorbitant but it is difficult to predict how these companies would charge people.

According to the complaint, the driver could not begin the drive because he was on the phone. The complaint claimed that he started the trip only after receiving the phone call. Sharma claimed that the cab took the wrong route after leaving her house, wasting another 15-20 minutes.
 

Tech giant Microsoft has laid off nearly 1,000 employees across multiple divisions of the company, media reports said. Additionally, Microsoft has chosen to freeze hiring or make employee layoffs this year, joining other major tech companies including Apple, Meta, Snap, and others.

Within three days Ola, Uber, Rapido auto-rickshaws services in Karnataka will be discontinued. This is following to the order passed by the Karnataka transport department on Thursday calling autos services provided by these ride-hailing platform companies “illegal”.

A female student was allegedly sexually assaulted by an auto driver in Chennai. She shared the ordeal on Twitter tagging the authorities. The student recalled the incident, sharing the details of the auto driver and the difficulties she faced in reporting the incident and seeking action. 

'I had heard that Uber India was plumbing new depths. Experienced today. Pre-booked an Uber, never turned up. Booked another and the new driver casually says we never go to pre-booked bookings. No accountability,' Harsha Bhogle wrote on Twitter.

The additional job cuts were concentrated in Microsoft's Modern Life Experiences (MLX) group, which was put together in 2018. "The Modern Life Experiences team's approximately 200 workers have been instructed to find another job inside the corporation within 60 days or take severance," the report added.
