The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an yellow alert for North India in the wake of heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.  According to the weather office, the temperature throughout the country will stay below due to thunderstorms.

Parts of the national capital and NCR on Wednesday woke up to light rainfall and thunderstorms with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more showers during the day. The rainfall in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad came amid an unusual rise in temperatures in some places of the country. 

The IMD's regional met centre in Mumbai has forecast thunderstorms and lightning over Coastal Maharashtra, Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha from Sunday to Tuesday (December 11, 2022-13, 2022), and Marathwada on Sunday and Monday (December 11, 2022-12, 2022).

On December 8, light to moderate rain is expected in many places with isolated thunderstorms and lightning likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms and lightning with squalls for coastal Karnataka on Thursday and heavy rain in North and South Interior Karnataka (NIK and SIK).

According to an official, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city and the surrounding districts of Thane, Palghar, and the Konkan region for the next two days. The city went under cloud cover and experienced incessant rainfall beginning in the afternoon, with parts of the city experiencing heavy rains and thunderstorms.
 

Odisha and Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the next five days. Heavy showers with thunderstorms are forecasted over southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, during the coming few days.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal extending upto middle tropospheric levels. Under the influence of these systems, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms is very likely over Chhattisgarh on August 26-27 and over East Madhya Pradesh on August 27-28.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds over and adjacent to a few localities in North Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi (Bawana, Mundaka), Sonipat, and Kharkhoda on Wednesday night.

Over the next five days, rain is expected in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
 

The IMD stated that there could be widespread light to moderate rainfall, with the thunderstorms/lightning, over Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
 

The IMD has stated that thundershowers with moderate intensity rain and gusty winds of 60-90 km/h will continue to occur over and adjacent to the whole Delhi and NCR region.
 

The rare weather phenomenon came even as the meteorological department has forecast thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall for the entire northeastern region over the next few days.

Isolated light rain, dust storms, thunderstorms, and winds blowing up to 50 kmph are expected throughout Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the next four days, according to the IMD.
