A Punjab Cabinet meeting was held at 11:30 am on Friday at Punjab Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh, following which Channi went to Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation from CM post to Governor.

On Saturday, Bhagwant Mann will meet with the Punjab governor to stake his claim to form the government.

An analysis of the AAP chief's celebratory speech threw up some eye-opening facts

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), ecstatic at its overwhelming win in Punjab, took a swipe at opponents who had written off party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his early political career. Sharing a video on Twitter with #AAPSweepsPunjab, the party said: "They tried to bury us.. They didn't know we were seeds!"
 

Going back to a few weeks, in an interview, AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said, "Channi will lose both the seats he is contesting. We are ready to give in writing".

The AAP had won 92 seats and was ahead in the 117-member legislature. The governing Congress has gained 18 seats, bagging the second spot. 

In a surprise development, AAP’s Jeevan Jyot Kaur emerged victorious on the seat where the main contest was believed to be between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Bikram Singh Majithia.
 

“I humbly accept the verdict of the people of Punjab and Congratulate Aam Aadmi Party and their elected Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Ji for the victory. I hope they will deliver on the expectations of people,” Channi tweeted.

Reacting to the results, Kejriwal said, "The results are a massive 'inquilaab', big seats have shaken up. Punjab has done an amazing job. 'Punjab waalo tussi kamaal kar ditta', we all love you, Punjab."
 

"The oath ceremony would take place in Khatkarkalan, the ancestral place of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh; not Raj Bhawan. The precise date will be disclosed later," Mann said. He further mentioned this in his winning speech in Dhuri, where he received over 58,000 votes.

Bains said many big names had lost their seats, including current CM Charanjit Singh Channi. He said people have voted in huge numbers. "I am fighting against Assembly Speaker, a three-time MLA, who is also losing," he added.
 

People of India are with us now, and this is not just the Aam Aadmi Party's victory but a victory for the 'aam aadmi' (common person), Sisodia said. 

As the Aam Aadmi Party is on its way to form the government, the party president Arvind Kejriwal praised the state's people on bringing about a "revolution." He shared a photo with the party's chief ministerial candidate, Bhagwant Mann, who is running from the Dhuri seat.
