The pier of this bridge over mighty Barak is taller than the Qutub Minar
This is bridge number 53, which has been constructed over river Barak -- the largest river of Manipur -- as part of the Jiribam-Imphal New Line Project.
The bridge is situated at a difficult location where the height of the tallest pier is as high as 75m (higher than Qutub Minar).
Jiribam-Imphal new line project, worth over Rs 13,809 crore, is a challenging project in the hilly terrain of the young Himalayas. When completed, the 110.625 km line will have 47 tunnels, 156 bridges, including a 141-metre high pier bridge.
