Usha Chaumar, a dalit social worker and sanitation activist from Alwar in Rajasthan, has won the Padma Award this year. She was once a manual scavenger.
 


President of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation Usha Chaumar is one among 21 'unsung heroes' chosen for Padma Shri awards 2020. This 53-year-old social worker is a Dalit woman whose life is an embodiment of strong will and empowerment - one who was helpless herself has now become the voice of countless.
