Here’s why Indiranagar residents resorted to silent protest march

FollowBengaluru residents have had issues with illegal commercialisation for quite some time now. On Saturday, Indiranagar residents resorted to a silent protest march from 6th Main road till KFC signal on the 100 Feet Road against illegal commercialisation.
"What we have to say is on the placards we hold. This protest is to show the disconnect between Governance and Resident Welfare," a resident of the Indiranagar was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
The 100 feet road in Indiranagar has several places where one can grab a drink and every now and then a new place opens up for the public. This is their primary concern and thus the residents chose to protest against mushrooming of pubs in residential areas.
Midnight revelry is not a new thing in Indiranagar. In recent times, the crime rate has also gone up in the adjoining areas. Residents have also had issues with the car parking. The visitors in the pubs and restaurants in Indiranagar end up parking their respective car in front of the houses, which makes the residents’ access to their own house difficult.
"A rooftop restaurant opens and then another one follows. This is a pattern and has become stressful for residents. BBMP offices close at 3:30 or 5 pm. The pubs start their nuisance at 6:30 pm carrying on till 1:30 am," the resident added.
The neighbours have complained that the party continues till 3 am in the morning and the next day there are broken bottles on the streets. This indeed has become a major issue for the residents of Indiranagar and adjoining areas and the Police have not done anything about it according to the local residents.
