NIA probe into activities of Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist outfit has found that apart from the two factions, the one busted in Kanakamala and one that recruited 22 persons from Kasargod, another faction is also functioning in the state. The third faction is doubted to have close links with ISIS and consists of older persons who were radicalised even before the formation of the terrorist outfit.

It is suspected that the group has over ten members, all above 50-years and have strong support from Gulf region. Most of the members are suspected to be working in Gulf countries.

Times of India reports that the members are planning to join ISIS, and one even tried to reach Syria a few months ago but failed.

There are reports that the members are in contact with the spokesperson of ISIS and the speeches of the leaders of the terrorist outfit are widely circulated among members. The speeches of Anwar-al-Awlaki, an American preacher who was killed in a drone attack in 2011, was one such speech that was widely circulated.

The men are also reported to be circulating a Malayalam translation of an Arabic book, in the name Valinte Thanalil (Under the shadow of the sword).

A Whatsapp message expressing displeasure over more youths getting attracted to ISIS is also reportedly circulating. The message says  “After the group from Padne had left the country, we expected that the nuisance created by the IS would come to an end. But we are aghast to know that more and more youths were walking into the net of the terror organisation.”
