A wild elephant fell into a well on private property in Vellakkarithadom, Thrissur, prompting rescue efforts that unfortunately ended in the animal's death. The property owner, Surendran, discovered the elephant and alerted forest officials. 
 

The iconic temple festival in Kerala, the Thrissur Pooram faced disruption due to police restrictions for crowd management, leading to criticism of the state government's handling of the situation. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the state police chief to transfer Thrissur Police Commissioner Ankit Asokan and Assistant Commissioner K Sudarsan with the permission of the Election Commission. 
 

The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next 5 days. Meanwhile,  the maximum temperature in the Kollam and Thrissur districts is expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius.

The Thrissur city is in full festive mood as the Pooram has officially begun with the opening of the Neithala Kavilamma Thekke Gopura Nada on Thursday (April 18). The Thrissur Pooram will be held on April 19 (Friday).

Kerala Forest Department recently issued an order regarding the management of elephants for the Thrissur Pooram which saw a protest from the pooram organisers. The Thrissur Pooram is on April 19.

Thrissur and Palakkad districts recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius while Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius today.
