Chandrababu Naidus plan for Amaravati Airlines may soon hit a roadblock

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's ambitious project of starting the Amaravati Airlines may hit a roadblock given the immense debt that the aviation ministry of India is in. Experts believe that this will only add up to the country's exchequer. In fact, even the central government airline- Air India is also considered as a white elephant since it does not add to the revenues anymore.

Moreover, it is also said that the government-run airlines will also have a number of obligations from the lawmakers and politicians, which will only dig into the revenues.

However, there are other reports which suggest that Naidu is planning to launch the airline only after developing the Andhra capital. According to an official, the initiative is being planned to boost the aviation sector in the state, adding that the airline is likely to be named after the state capital.

The official further added,"When Amaravati is developed, the government may like to have its own international airport and airline depending upon the requirement at that particular time." Currently, there are five commercial airports in Andhra Pradesh- Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Kadapa. Apart from this, there are six greenfield airports, which comprise Bhogapuram, Dagadarthi, Orvakallu, Kuppam, Tadepallegudam and Ongole that are being developed through public-private partnership.
