Bengaluru: Another building collapses; 194 dangerous buildings identified, notice issued to 77 owners

According to reports, in BBMP 2019 survey, 177 such dangerous buildings were identified that were unfit for occupancy and could collapse anytime.

As another building collapsed in Bengaluru on Tuesday, there is a lurking danger of 194 dangerous buildings crashing down any moment in Bengaluru.

In today's incident, the (BAMUL) Bengaluru Milk Union Limited's 50-year-old 3-floor quarters developed a big crack, and suddenly its ground floor sank under the ground at around 9:30 am.

Luckily no one was injured, however, all their belongings have been stuck inside the building.

According to reports, the occupants had informed the BAMUL authorities about the danger of the building collapsing.

SN Narasimha Murthy, the president visited the spot and informed that the employees will be shifted to another place and will house them at apartment complexes and a new building will be constructed.

Yesterday, three floors of an old building collapsed at Lakkasandra close to Dairy Circle. About 25 to 30 metro construction workers used to sleep at night in the building.

In both the incidents, the occupants were lucky as the building collapsed at the time when no one was around or anticipating the fall, evacuated the building at the right time.

BBMP wakes up late:

After two buildings collapsed, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has said that the house owners of such buildings will be booked in case they don't vacate the tenants and demolish such buildings.

Despite the survey in 2019, the palike did not make any efforts to vacate the tenants and raze such buildings.

Zones with highest number of dangerous buildings:

As per the report, Yelahanka zone has 67 old buildings and a notice to 7 owners has already been issued. Similarly, East zone has 53 buildings and 33 owners were given notice. West zone reported 33 such buildings and notice has been issued to 6 owners. In the South zone, there are 38 buildings and notice to 30 building owners has been issued. The newly carved Mahadevpura has 3 such buildings.
