Bengaluru Economics professor’s terrace floor organic garden solves household wastage problem

Bengaluru professor Dr Rajesh shares his experience of creating an organic garden in Pulikeshi Nagar in the city

Bengaluru: With an organic garden on the terrace floor of his house that meets 50% of his vegetable requirements in the kitchen, a garden that led him to reduce household waste by creating compost and utilising it as organic manure for his plants and a garden that let him save water, Bengaluru professor Dr Rajesh shares his experience of creating an organic garden in Pulikeshi Nagar in the city.

Like any other beginner, Rajesh started his gardening with potted plants and later shifted to the use of gunny sacks to plant seeds. After he figured that it was not sustainable, he decided to grow plants on the terrace floor by waterproofing the terrace and adding a layer of a combination of microfibre and filter to drain water but not soil.
