With no salary for 15 months, Karnataka health workers go on indefinite strike

Thousand of accredited social health activists also called ASHA workers assembled at Majestic Railway Station to register their protest of the government not paying them their monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000, in addition to the lack of social security measures to protect them.
 

Bengaluru: Thousands of ASHA workers arrived at Majestic Railway Station and marched to Freedom Park in Bengaluru to register their protest over the government not giving them their monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000 for the last 15 months.

The workers were who are spread all over Karnataka are being supported by various organisations and trade unions who express solidarity with them. They say, the workers who are a bridge between the health department and public deserve some respect.
KV Bhat, vice president said, there is a demand of increase the monthly honorarium to Rs 12,000 from the existing Rs 6,000.
The workers will assemble at Freedom Park and go on indefinite strike, he stated.
