Tragic Thursday: 20 people die as Kerala state bus and lorry collide

20 people reportedly killed while they were asleep as the Kerala state bus collided with a container lorry.  The Kerala-bound bus that left Bengaluru on Wednesday to reach Ernakulam met with an accident near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: In a gruesome accident in Tamil Nadu, 20 Keralites reportedly died while they were fast asleep. Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus that left Bengaluru on Wednesday night, collided with a container lorry at Avinashi in Coimbatore. According to reports, over 20 people suffered injuries and are shifted to a nearby hospital.

Among the deceased, five are women and 11 are men and the rest are yet to be identified. In all, 48 people were travelling in the AC coach bus. The driver TD Gireesh and conductor Baiju died on the spot.

It is reported that the lorry suffered a tyre burst and rammed against the bus. The authorities have shifted the bodies to Tirupur and Coimbatore and the injured are being treated at Avinashi government hospital.

The bus that belongs to Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bearing the registration number KL-15A 282 belongs to Ernakulam depot. And it collided with the lorry bearing the registration KL O7 CS6325 at 3:15 am today. 

As per information, Keraka transport minister AK Sreedharan has directed the MD of KSRTC to monitor the situation and update.
