Tamil Nadu: Rs 38.6 lakh cash, 1,192 liquor bottles seized from AIADMK candidates’ houses

Election flying squad and police officials seized hard cash and liquor worth lakhs from AIADMK candidates contesting rural body elections in Tamil Nadu
 

Ramanathapuram: With the local body elections in Tamil Nadu around the corner, election flying squad and the police seized Rs 38.6 lakh cash and 1,192 liquor bottles from the residences of former AIADMK office-bearers near Kamuthi Government Hospital in Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu. 

Based on a tip-off, a team of election flying squad and police raided the premises of Balu, former AIADMK union chairman, and his father Dharmalingam on Monday and found hard cash and liquor bottles, apparently kept for distribution to the voters during the elections to rural local bodies.

The officials said Balu is contesting election for union councillor post from Mandalamanikam and his mother Raniammal for Mandalamanikam village panchayat president post. R Dharmalingam, 70, is a highways contractor and former president of Mandalamanikam village.  

The team raided the two houses after a complaint was received stating that cash and liquor bottles were hidden in the houses for distribution to the voters. The team of election flying squad and police, who raided the houses were headed by Kamuthi DSP Mahendran and Election Flying Squad official Jamal Mohamed.
