Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): An initiative by Krishnagiri district forest officer S Prabhu that a cow would be provided for dairy farming in exchange of a gun from tribals has paid rich dividends. Thanks to him, tribals have given up on illegal hunting. A group of poachers surrendered their country-made guns. With 10 guns surrendered on Friday (August 14), in the last one month, the Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu received 29 guns from poachers. Last month, a warning was also issued by the forest official stating that cattle of villagers would be seized if they venture into forest lands. This was issued through the village panchayats after an ivory smuggling case was reported.
