Security heightened ahead of Republic Day celebrations in Tamil Nadu’s Rameshwaram

 Ahead of the Republic Day, security across Arichal Munai and other coastal areas in Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu, has been heightened and the police are keeping a strict vigil

Dhanushkodi (TN): District police have made elaborate security arrangements, activating all border check-posts, intensifying patrolling along the coast and posting guards at the century-old Pamban rail bridge ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

Superintendent of police Varun Kumar said, “All the 12 check-posts on the district border and six check-posts inside the district have been activated and vehicle checks will commence from Saturday night to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the celebrations.”

“As a precautionary measure, the police also started checking lodges and hotels and intensified highway and bike patrolling and officers’ night rounds throughout the district,” he added.

“Local police guards had been posted at both ends of the Pamban rail bridge and highway patrolling has intensified at Pamban road bridge. A team of Tamil Nadu Special Police have also been posted at Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram,” the SP added.
