Man wrestles with leopard for 20 minutes, kills predator and saves family

In a scene straight out of a film, a man fought with a leopard and killed it to save his family and himself.

The incident happened at Arasikere taluk in Hassan district yesterday evening when Rajagopal Naik, his wife Chandramma, and son Kiran were heading home on a motorbike.

The leopard that was said to be hiding in bushes appeared and pounced on them and started to attack Kiran and bit his leg and started to attack Chandramma. Rajagopal Naik without thinking much then held the leopard by its neck and started to hit its head with his elbow. The animal also attacked him but he held its neck tight and repeatedly hit its head until the animal died.

Soon the villagers assembled and gave water to Naik and hailed his heroism for saving his family by risking his life.

The injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment and the forest officials were called to the spot.  The dead leopard was sent to a veterinary hospital for autopsy and an alert has been sounded in the area as many such attacks on livestock have been reported in the past.
