Lockdown: Migrant workers stage protest in Hyderabad demanding they be sent back home

Days after 1,200 migrant workers returned to their homes by a train from Telangana, scores of them staged a protest in Hyderabad demanding they be allowed to leave for their native places.

Hyderabad: Over 1,000 migrant labourers assembled at Tolichowki area in Hyderabad to reach the railway station following rumours that the government would operate special trains for them and demanded they be sent back home. They complained that their survival has become difficult without an income amid the nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy commissioner of police (West Zone) AR Srinivas told reporters that the workers from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka, employed at various establishments in the city, gathered in the area following the rumours.
