Gone in seconds: 4 luxury apartment buildings in Kerala demolished over environmental violations

Two apartments in Kerala's Maradu; Jain Coral Cove and Golden Kayaloram were demolished on January 12, while two others were destroyed on January 11.

The last of the four illegal apartment complexes in Maradu town of Kerala's Kochi were demolished today (January 12). Jain Coral Cove and Golden Kayaloram constructed at the same location were demolished at 11am and 2:30pm respectively.

In the morning, the 17-storeyed Jain Coral Cove building, the largest among the four with 128 flats, was demolished using 372kg of explosives. Golden Kayaloram, the 17-storeyed building with 40 flats, was the latest to be razed for flouting Coastal Zone Regulation norms. The buildings are razed for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.

The directions in this regard were passed by the Supreme Court last year.
