Despite ban, cock and sheep fights witnessed in Andhra Pradesh

Though Supreme Court had issued guidelines, betting involving roosters and sheep fights were witnessed in many villages in Andhra Pradesh where crores of money was involved

Andhra Pradesh: Despite the court's verdict, many parts of Andhra Pradesh have witnessed betting, roosters and sheep fights in large number during the Sankranti festival. Supreme Court issued guidelines that there should be no gambling and no cruelty towards animals. Illegal activities such as gambling were also noticed during the event which saw the participation of the ruling party YSRCP leaders. Many leaders from the party supported and participated in the traditional games of the festival across East Godavari and West Godavari district and in Krishna, Chittoor and Rayalaseema districts. More than Rs 100 crore was reportedly involved in the betting and many women and children from various villages came to witness the traditional games.  

More than 50 people were injured in the famous Jallikattu and allegedly Rs 100 crore was put in the name of the betting across districts of Andhra Pradesh.
