Bengaluru municipality cracks the whip on cable mafia, removes illegal wires dangling on streets
While illegal cables have been proving to be a danger for motorists, Bengaluru municipality has decided to take on cable mafia in Mahadevpura area.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday did the unthinkable. It launched a drive to take on illegal cable mafia and removed those dangling cables in the 13.5 kilometre area of Mahadevpura.
The engineers from various wards in Mahadevpura were suddenly asked to take action.
Residents and activists from surrounding areas had complained to the BBMP about dangling cables from trees, buildings and electric poles. Despite several complaints to ward engineers, nothing changed. To avoid a bigger tragedy due to dangling illegal cables, the top functionaries in the palike issued an order and asked the ward engineers to act immediately and execute work on Sunday keep a check on the cable mafia.
