Bengaluru MP takes on another project, to develop lotus pond in Cubbon Park

Years of wait to see the famous lotus pond at Cubbon Park will end in 2020. Under Smart City Mission, both State and Centre will develop the park with a Rs 40-crore budget. According to officials, upgradation of parks and ponds will be a top priority.


Officials of the Smart City Mission that are tasked to develop Bengaluru will prepare a detailed project report and tenders have already been floated to develop the famous Cubbon Park. The project includes complete upgradation of footpaths and rejuvenation of the famous lotus pond. The overall development will take place with a Rs 40 crore budget

 

Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan who has already taken up installation of CCTV cameras and public toilets is now keen on other developments at the park. The MP held a meeting with walkers on Sunday and sought suggestions. The walkers aired their grievances.

Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association president held the horticulture department responsible for the sad state of affairs of the park, highlighting the condition of the lotus pond.

He recalled the days when Justice MF Saldanha had taken care of the pond. The pond had fish and ducks. The lotus pond was full of lotuses then, he stated.

Now under the Smart City project, Rs 40 crore has been earmarked and by end of this year, the project will be seen through, according to Hephsiba Rani, MD, Smart City Mission, Karnataka.
