Bengaluru: BBMP brings Indore model to tackle mixed waste problem

As the issue of mixed waste was increasing in BBMP limits despite the palike going all out to promote waste segregation, nothing improved and mayors in the past on the pretext of finding a solution, made foreign trips. Now, under Gautham Kumar Jain, the Indore model of waste collection trucks offers a better solution.

With mounting complaints from apartments, communities and many houses about their efforts of segregating waste being defeated by collectors mixing waste, the BBMP will now have new trucks that will have separate dry, wet and sanitary waste containers attached and covered with a lid.

These new trucks are not the result of solutions from abroad, but from Indore. The BBMP has identified five wards as part of a pilot project in which these trucks are collecting waste and the BBMP is able to reap benefits with the initiative.

According to the BBMP commissioner, they have made it a rule that new contractors will have to use only these trucks as it serves the purpose.
