Exclusive: 'Mamata Banerjee is the biggest opportunist'

In an exclusive interview with Asianet News, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who will be contesting against Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, says people of West Bengal won't accept the TMC chief's drama anymore.

"Mamata Banerjee is the biggest opportunist in West Bengal..." That's BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari talking about his erstwhile party's chief and West Bengal chief minister against whom he is squaring off in the battle for Nandigram.

Speaking exclusively to Asianet News, Suvendu said, "Mamata was elected as a Member of Parliament five times with the support of Indian National Congress. She was a three-time minister in the UPA, two-time minister in the NDA. Thrice she was elected as MP with the support of the BJP (1998, 1999, 2004). Everybody knows who the opportunist is. People know it."

Asked whether he would be a giant-killer in the forthcoming election, the BJP leader said, "I am fighting sincerely in Nandigram as per the direction of my party. The central leadership of the party nominated me as the candidate from Nandigram. This area is very well known to me. Last time, I was elected as an MLA from this area. And when I was MP twice, Nandigram was part of my electoral constituency. For that reason, this area is very known to me. I am confident, BJP will win with a mammoth margin."
