'Rajini will float his own political party'

  • Rajinikanth had earlier said he is ready to take on the corrupt political system
  • His elder brother said the superstar wants to float his own political party
  • State BJP is still hopeful of Rajini joining their party
Rajini will float his own political party

Putting an end to ongoing rumours on Rajinikanth's entry into Tamil Nadu politics, his elder brother Satyanarayana Rao Gaikwad said the Superstar would make the plunge by July end.

People of Tamil Nadu wish Rajinikanth to enter politics. He is in consultation with his well wishers and fans who were urging his to take the move, Gaikwad said.

The statement came in the wake of Rajinikanth's recent remarks to his fans that he is "ready for the war." The 66-year-old actor had said that he is ready to take on the corrupt political system and rotten democracy at the right time.

He made the statement during a meeting with his fans from 15 districts in Tamil Nadu from May 15 to 19.

Discussions on political entry have delayed the launch of his upcoming flick Kaala Karikaalan. He is planning to consult more persons during next two months before coming out with a formal announcement.

"Rajini is planning to meet as many fans as possible before taking a final decision. As the response from people is quite overwhelming he would hopefully make a positive decision," Gaikwad said.

Rajini is likely to float his own political party and his brother said they are working on its name and structure.

Soon after Rajini made the statement during the fan meet BJP started wooing him to join the party, but he prefers to float his own political party. We are working on the name and structure of the party, he said.

He also said that the Superstar aims to cleanse corruption in politics and want to ensure that the poor get the benefit of welfare schemes, reported Times of India.

BJP leaders are still hopeful of Rajinikanth joining their party fold. "His policy is anti-corruption, and the only party he can join hands in Tamil Nadu is BJP, party state president Tamilisai Sounderarajan said. Meanwhile, actor turned BJP lawmaker Shatrughan Sinha in multiple tweets advised Rajini that he must not join any political party and should instead let others join him.

Rajini had in 1996 supported DMK-TMC (Moopanar) tie up against AIADMK which was led by Jayalalithaa. Thereafter his political overtures were dormant, and it seems he is now returning with a renewed vigour. It seems that superstar is finding a space in the void left by Jayalalitha and as Karunanidhi of DMK has retired from active politics. DMDK of actor turned politician Vijayakanth also seems to have lost its sheen.
