Reacting to this incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the same and immediately called a high-level meeting and ordered a high-level inquiry into the entire matter.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed when unidentified assailants opened fire at them near a medical college in Prayagraj on Saturday night.

The 16-year-old boy, who hails from Bihar, was apprehended a teenager from Lucknow who is believed to have sent an email to a media house, threatening to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf alleged that an official has threatened to eliminate him in two weeks and will send a sealed envelope to UP CM and the Chief Justice of India revealing the identity of the perpetrator.

"As Lord Krishna did, Yogi ji is also acting in a similar way, for safeguarding the gentle (sajjan) people. He has taken strong steps against the people having a mean attitude and are dangerous for society," Gadkari said.

CM Adityanath's outburst was rare as he had cultivated a far more measured public image since he took over the state in 2017, stowing away years of incendiary speeches as the founding leader of Hindu Yuva Vahini, a right-wing group.

It is reported that the incident took place on Friday. The deceased, Sandeep Yadav, was scheduled to join duty on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Mishra said.

The Chief Minister then summoned Chief Secretary Usha Sharma and expressed anger and carelessness by the officials. It was a first such instance in the state where a budget speech was disrupted in the Assembly.
