Heavy rainfall in Kozhikode district, Kerala, has caused widespread disruption, with landslides, flooding, and rising water levels in rivers. Currently, 854 people from 196 families are taking shelter in 41 relief camps across the district. 

A series of devastating landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district has destroyed villages, killed at least 84 people, and left hundreds trapped. Heavy rains caused severe damage to roads and bridges, hampering rescue efforts. The Chooralmala and Mundakai areas are worst hit, with over 200 houses affected. Rescue operations are ongoing amidst challenging conditions.

On Tuesday morning (July 30), Wayanad was hit by severe landslides, resulting in widespread devastation. Aerial footage of the Chooralmala area revealed homes reduced to rubble, swollen rivers, and extensive debris. The affected regions are covered in destroyed houses, logs, boulders, and mud, underscoring the extensive damage.
 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the phone to offer support and solidarity in the wake of the Wayanad landslide disaster. Tamil Nadu is providing Rs 5 crore for relief and rehabilitation efforts, as well as sending medical and rescue teams to assist in the crisis.

Rescue operations have been launched with the assistance of various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). As of now, approximately 250 individuals have been rescued and relocated to temporary shelters. Despite these efforts, the situation remains dire, with many areas still inaccessible due to the landslides.

The IMD sounded a red alert in several districts of Kerala on Tuesday (July 30) amid intense rainfall continuing to lash the state and leading to landslides in several parts of the state.

The catastrophic landslides early Tuesday have claimed over 40 lives, with fears that the toll may increase as hundreds remain trapped under the debris. The disaster has wreaked havoc in several villages, including Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha, isolating these areas from the rest of the district.

A Navy team from the Ezhimala Naval Academy will soon arrive in Wayanad to assist with rescue operations following landslides in the area. The team's expertise in river crossing will be utilised to support the efforts, as requested by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Heavy rain in Kerala has led to significant traffic disruptions and the cancellation of four trains on Tuesday (July 30). The IMD has issued a red alert for northern districts including Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, advising extreme caution in these areas.
