Silver lamps worth Rs 15 lakh seized from Airavat bus driver, conductor suspended

The silver goods did not have any proper documents and were being carried in the luggage box of the bus number KA 57 F 2844, belonging to the Bengaluru Central division
 

Bengaluru: The police have seized Rs 15 lakh worth silver lamps being transported in Karnataka’s state-run Airavat Club Class bus headed to Vijayawada from Bengaluru. The bus driver and conductor have been suspended by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The silver goods did not have any proper documents and were being carried in the luggage box of the bus bearing number plate KA 57 F 2844, belonging to the Bengaluru central division. As the bus reached Hoskote on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the toll officers grew suspicious about the information on luggage being carried. The toll officers conducted a search and found 40.950 kg of 699 silver lamps kept in four bags. When asked the conductor and driver said that they had no idea about the owner of the silver goods. The silver lamps have been handed over to the Commercial Tax Department. The action against the driver and conductor was initiated by the KSRTC officers.
