How a woman fought a 21 year long battle with BSF and won it

A woman who held the Border Security Forces (BSF) responsible for the death of her husband, has finally won her battle - that she waged against the security personnel - after nearly 21 years. However, her victory is only partial.

Raju was a cook with the Border Security Forces canteen for over 20 years. But due to his long working hours and continuous inhaling of smoke from the kitchen, he had developed severe respiratory problems and heart ailments. But the alleged delay in releasing the medical aid by the BSF authorities, Raju could not afford a surgery and eventually passed away, reports Kannada Prabha.

After Raju's demise in 1993, his wife Rani had approached the court seeking her husband's job on humanitarian grounds in 1995. After the initial denials, she was finally appointed as a helper in the BSF canteen. But till, 2014, her job had not been regularised and this deeply hurt her. When she approached the court and managed to issue a legal notice to the BSF questioning the authorities delay in regularising her job she was suspended in 2014. She approached the high court demanding that her job is regularised or at least appoint her daughter to her post. Besides, she had also sought Rs 7.5 lakh compensation that the BSF had delayed in providing to her husband in terms of medical aid.

Meanwhile, when the matter came up for hearing, the BSF had told the court that they would offer Rani's daughter the job on humanitarian grounds. But the court was not satisfied with it and sought to know, "You had promised the same in 2013 and do you still stand by it?" At this, the advocates arguing for the BSF informed the court that Rani's daughter would be appointed and Bengaluru BSF-STC unit had given a letter in this regard.

But Rani's fight is not yet over. She would continue to fight against the BSF as she thinks the Forces was responsible for her husband's death, reports Kannada Prabha quoting Rani's lawyer H Sunil Kumar.
