Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said that he would return to Mumbai soon. Shinde told reporters outside the Guwahati hotel where rebel camp MLAs have been staying since June 24 that he has the support of 50 MLAs and that "they are here on their own."

Shinde also challenged Shiv Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray to reveal the names of Shiv Sena MLAs who are reportedly in contact with the party and pleading to return. He said this in response to Aaditya Thackeray's claims that at least 20 MLAs who have joined the rebel camp have contacted him and urged the party to bring them back to Mumbai from Guwahati.

"We are in Shiv Sena, and we are advancing Shiv Sena. There should be no question about it," Shinde said in his first reaction since arriving in Guwahati. "Will return to Mumbai soon," said Shinde.

Shinde responded when asked about his plans, "We will inform you of our next steps," adding that "our spokesperson is Deepak Kesarkar, and he will provide you with all the information." He is informing you of our position and role. We are speaking about Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva and carrying it forward."

"50 MLAs with me in Guwahati have come of their own accord and for Hindutva," Shinde said, dismissing reports that MLAs are being "suppressed."

"Everyone is happy here. MLAs have joined us. If the Shiv Sena claims that the MLAs present here are in contact with them, they should reveal the names," Shinde said, who wields considerable political power in Thane and is widely credited with driving Sena's expansion in the state. On Monday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray divested nine ministers, including Shinde, of their portfolios.

Shinde's rebellion has pushed Maharashtra's MVA government to collapse. The MVA is Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress alliance formed in 2019 after Uddhav's party severed its friendship with the BJP immediately after the Assembly election results were announced.
