Punjab Kings might be suffering from the Indian Premier League title drought since the tournament's inception in 2008. However, it is seemingly desperate to turn things around in IPL 2021, under KL Rahul's leadership.

Although it is off to a mixed start to IPL 2021, it came up with a resounding performance against Royals Challengers Bangalore, defeating the side by 34 runs in Match 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. While Rahul was the start with the bat, uncapped spinner Harpreet Brar stole the spotlight with his prolific bowling that included three top RCB wickets (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers).

Speaking on Brar's performance, Rahul considered, "We were preparing Brar. On a pitch like this, we felt like we needed a finger spinner who could hit hard lengths. He did exactly that and batted really well in the end as well."

"I am young myself, but I have been trying to speak to the boys and pass on whatever experience I have of IPL and international cricket. They are blessed with enormous talent and we have to prepare them for the situations and the pressures they'd face in the middle," he added during the post-match presentation.

Brar was delighted by his performance, stating that he just wanted to bowl to de Villiers but instead ended up dismissing him. "My plan against De Villiers was to bowl a touch wider outside off-stump and out of his slot since the ball was gripping a bit. That's why I brought in a slip and had covers to come up slightly. I wanted to bowl a dot but also managed to get a wicket. I am blessed," he asserted following the game.

Speaking on his plans against Kohli, Brar recalled, "My strategy was to hit the right length and not worry even if he hits me for a boundary. If the batsman charges down the track, then you alter the length."

Nevertheless, he affirmed that he always intends to bowl with a free mind and not meditating on the result, which allowed him to attain success on Friday. "I just wanted to play bindaas (carefree) cricket come what may. I didn't want to take too much stress and play my natural game," he concluded.
