Bengaluru: Highlighting of the poor condition of Harlur lake by Asianet Newsable on July 23 has yielded massive response as the civic body BBMP swung into action. According to residents and activists, Shilpa, assistant engineer  of the BBMP along with other officials visited the lake the very next day. JCB machines were deployed and the clogged sewage drain on lake bed was cleared.

Officials and activists found a plastic bucket stuck in the drain. It is said that this has been a persistent issue over the last three years. Whenever it rains, plastic and other debris enters sewage drains and blocks the outlets resulting in sewage flowing into the lake. Residents have requested the BWSSB to replace old sewage pipes and asked the BBMP to put a steel mesh near stormwater drains.
