“Drunk” RTO inspector knocks down auto, protest erupts in Bengaluru’s Hosur road

An RTO officer believed to be drunk knocks down an auto, triggering protests on the busy Hosur Road. The accused officer was taken to St John’s Hospital where upon conducting tests, there was no trace of alcohol found. 
 

Bengaluru: An officer with the Regional Transport Office knocked down an autorickshaw injuring the passengers and the driver. The incident triggered protests by auto drivers in the locality. 

The police rushed to the spot and conducted a breath test using the alcometer on the accused, Manjunath, only to find there was no trace of alcohol. 

The police then took him to St John’s hospital where a detailed test was conducted on the accused. The test revealed that Manjunath was not drunk but was on medication. The report will then be submitted in court. 

The crowd dispersed around half-an-hour later after the police promised that action would be taken.

Manjunath has been booked for rash and negligent act causing grievous injuries. The police have told him to compensate the driver for the damage to his vehicle and foot his medical bill.
