Bengaluru: Gram panchayat makes Rs 10 lakh profit by auctioning dry waste
While the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been spending more than Rs 1,000 crore per year to manage the garbage collected in the city, a gram panchayat, out of the BBMP limits, has started making Rs 10 lakh profit out the waste material they collect
Bengaluru: A gram panchayat initiative in Rajanukunte near Bengaluru, has been collecting garbage, segregating them and creating organic compost out of a part of the collected material. The people involved go to every house and commercial complex in the constituency to collect waste materials.
They make around Rs 10 lakh profit per year by auctioning the collected dry waste. They charge every house Rs 30 per month and the rate varies between Rs 100 and Rs 1,000 for commercial complexes based on the quantity of waste collected that month.
They are now planning to sell the organic compost as well.
