Coffee with Karnataka: Kannada Café gives you a dose of the language with every bite

Among most theme-based eateries that have mushroomed in Bengaluru in recent years, Kannada Café stands out with its gallery of portraits of prominent Kannadigas like Sir M Visweshwaraya, Jnanpith awardees and other major contributors of the Kannada culture

Bengaluru: The newly opened Kannada Café is not just another theme-based eatery, but a gallery that celebrates artists, seers, environmental activists and others who have contributed to Karnataka and Kannada culture.

Apart from portraits of great Kannadigas who have contributed in various fields in Karnataka, the café also houses a library of Kannada literature.

A QR code scan at the portrait of these personalities is enough to obtain all pertinent information on one’s phone.

The café encourages learning of Kannada culture through its food and books. According to owner Suresh Gowda, “every customer who comes should sense the fragrance of the Kannada language and its culture.

From popular ragi balls that is famous in southern parts of Karnataka to steaming hot idlis, dosas, bisi bele bath, all come with a dose of Kannada culture.

Apart from portraits of Sir M Visveswaraya, the chief architect of Kannambadi Dam, the library hosts portraits of great poet laureate Da Ra Bendre, Masti Venkatesha Iyengar, Kannada actors Shankar Nag, Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, environmental activist Salumarada Thimmakka and others.
