Karnataka bypoll results claimed the second wicket from the Congress as state party president Dinesh Gundu Rao stepped down and resigned from the post

Bengaluru: The Karnataka bypoll results have left the Congress camp in shatters. Adding to the misery, their chief Siddaramaiah resigned from his post and now Karnataka Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao too stepped down taking responsibility for the poor performance in bypolls. Dinesh said, “We have to accept the people’s verdict with humility and grace in a democracy. We respect it. We will not misunderstand it. Yes, it is painful for us. We had different expectations. We congratulate all the winning candidates. Especially our Congress candidates Rizwan Arshad and HP Manjunath. I congratulate Sharat Bachchegowda too and BJP's winners. We hope everyone will work together.”

Reports are rife that Congress troubleshooter DK Shivakumar might fill in Dinesh Gundu Rao’s place as Karnataka Congress president.
