Children's Day: 13-year-old turns life saver to classmate contemplating suicide

Vadivelan, a 13-year-old boy from a government middle school in Karunkulam, Thoothukudi prevented his classmate from committing suicide by hanging from a tamarind tree. Vadivelan's act has won him accolades in his locality.

Thoothukudi: Vadivelan, a 13-year-old boy studying in class VII at a government middle school in Karunkulam in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi won praises for saving the life of his classmate, who reportedly attempted to commit suicide by hanging from a tree.

According to reports, Vadivelan, along with his classmate Murugan (name changed) went behind the school to pick up tamarinds. As he was heading back to class, Vadivelan found his classmate hanging from a branch of a tree.

Quick thinking Vadivelan used his presence of mind and lifted his friend by holding him by his knees. With the help of another friend, Vadivelan climbed the tree and removed the knot.

The move was appreciated by, not only the villagers but also Peraiyur's Superintendent of Police V Varun Kumar.
